COVID-19 vs. Flu Deaths by Age, Is COVID Really Worse?
I dig into some more CDC data, looking at the relation between flu and COVID-19 deaths by age. Is COVID-19 more infectious or dangerous to babies? Children? Adults? The elderly? Are more people of a certain age group dying from COVID-19 than from the flu?
The punch line is that COVID-19 is showing only slightly more deaths for the elderly. That’s it. Overall, both infections affect age groups the same.
Here is the data looked at.

Here is where I got the data:
- Estimated Influenza Illnesses, Medical visits, Hospitalizations, and Deaths in the United States — 2018–2019 influenza season
- Provisional COVID-19 Death Counts by Sex, Age, and StateNCHS
